The time is closely approaching for your child to end one chapter of their life and embark on a
new one. The 2023 eighth grade class of Blenheim Middle School of Discovery will have its
Eighth Grade Promotion Ceremony on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. The purpose of
this ceremony is to celebrate the success of completing the 8th grade. Students must meet all
requirements for promotion to participate in the promotion ceremony. All 8th grade students
participating in the ceremony must report to school that morning by 8:00 a.m.
Below is the attire for this occasion. The attire is NOT OPTIONAL. If your child does not
dress appropriately for this occasion, he/she will not be allowed to participate. This program is a
solemn event, and we will treat it as such. Students who do not display appropriate behavior will
be escorted from the ceremony.
Students will be provided with a cap and gown to wear during the promotion ceremony. They
should return it after the program. Below is the attire to be worn under the cap and gown.
Attire for the ceremony:
Girls: White dresses (at or below the knee) or white skirts (at or below the knee) with a white
blouse. Dresses cannot be spaghetti straps or strapless unless worn with a white jacket or
cardigan. No bodycon dress. Girls are to wear white dress shoes, NO FLIP FLOPS.
Boys: White dress shirts with a dark tie, dark dress pants and dark dress shoes, NO
SNEAKERS.

Dear Parent/Guardian:
As the end of the year approaches, it is time for our annual Middle School Formal Social. This year our social will be held on April 28, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM. The theme for this year is “Hollywood: A Red Carpet Affair.”
We know that our students are looking forward to this wonderful event. The cost of each ticket is $20. Tickets are on sale and will be on sale until April 26th. 7th graders can purchase tickets from Ms. Buchanan and 8th graders can purchase from Ms. Coleman during lunch. Light refreshments and snacks will be served at the formal at no cost to the students.
Pictures will be taken at the dance for a fee. Picture information will come later.
At the BMSD Spring Formal, all Marlboro County School District rules and policies for conduct and behavior will be enforced for students.
Students are encouraged to dress their best! Students are expected to follow the dress code stated below. If students do not meet the dress code requirements, they will not be permitted into the dance. If students are unsure that their outfit meets the dress code, they are welcome to bring it to the school to try it on or bring pictures of themselves in the outfit for Mrs. Genwright/Ms. Coleman to confirm it meets the requirements. Dress code:
Girls and Boys
Dresses/skirts must hit no shorter than 1 inch above the knee
No excessive cleavage or midriff showing
No hats/bandanas
No flip-flops or shower shoes
No visible underwear
No jeans
Pants must be worn at the waistline

Students with more than 2 discipline referrals from March 6th to April 26th cannot attend the formal.
No refunds will be given to any student unable to attend due to referrals or dress code violations.

Members of the Blenheim Middle School of Discovery Beta Club and BMSD Student Council participated in the Marlboro County Clean and Green Week. Students met on Saturday, April 1st to collect trash on Highland St in Blenheim, SC.
Come join us at Blenheim Middle School of Discovery on April 17, 2023 via ZOOM or Face-to-Face to participate in a workshop to help students to navigate performance on the TDA Field Test.
One on One with 301 at Blenheim Middle School of discovery. This is a program centered around the sheriff making connections with the children. Students are learning about what the Sheriff office does and helping them see law enforcement in a new light!

We will administer the Reading Growth assessment, Monday, March 27, 2023 and the Math Growth assessment, Tuesday March 28, 2023. Please ensure that students bring charged Chromebooks, are well rested and receive a good breakfast. Thanks!

This is our Science Lab entitled Absolute and Apparent Magnitudes wherein the 8th-grade students will observe how light behaves over distance and predict how two stars that are different in size and far away from each other may appear in the night sky.
